History of Present Illness (HPI)
A 59 year-old woman with a past medical history of hypertension presents to the Emergency Department (ED) with 2 days of fever, shortness of breath and productive cough. She tells you that her roommate was also recently sick with similar symptoms. In the ED, a nasopharyngeal swab for SARS-CoV2 is performed and a few hours later is positive. Over the next 12 hours, she experiences worsening respiratory distress and is intubated for hypoxic and hypercapnic respiratory failure.
You’re called for an elevated creatinine…from a baseline of 0.7 mg/dL two months ago.
