A 34 year-old man with a past medical history of type 1 diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia, and depression is brought to the emergency department after being found down.

His girlfriend called the police this morning when she arrived at his apartment and found him unresponsive. They last spoke the morning before when they had argued on the telephone. She found his medications on the floor of his bedroom, which she hands you in the emergency department.

The patient’s prescription medications include both long and short acting insulin, atorvastatin, aspirin, and acetaminophen as needed. Each bottle has a different number of pills inside, and his girlfriend says there were also pills on the floor. She is unsure which medications he took or how much he has taken. She reports he has no known allergies.
